William Hurt
The Oscar-winning actor died of natural causes on 13 March, surrounded by his family. He was 71 years old. Hurt made his big screen debut in the classic 1980 psychological horror film Altered States. Over the course of his career, Hurt amassed more than 100 acting credits and achieved stature in playing commanding and often malicious or duplicitous authority figures.
Hurt was nominated for three consecutive Oscars, beginning in 1985 for his role in Kiss of the Spider Woman and again in 1986 and 1987 for Children of a Lesser God and Broadcast News. In 2006 he was nominated again for his role in A History of Violence.
