Throughout his career that has spanned over 5 decades, he received numerous accolades and recognition for his contributions to drama. In fact, he was knighted back in 2015 to honor his work. John has collected plenty of notable film credits through the years including for his appearances in the Hellboy films, V for Vendetta, in Harry Potter movies, and Midnight Express.

Despite receiving a pancreatic cancer diagnosis, he continued to work. He passed away in 2017 at 77 years old, just 3 days after his birthday.
