The relationship of these two turned out pretty messy, indeed. The custody battle that ensued even had a judge admonishing the pair for their seeming selfishness. Apparently, they met at a party that was hosted by Sting. They fell head over heels for each other and eventually got married in 2000, at a Skibo Castle in Scotland. After denying rumors that they’ve split, they finally confirmed in 2008 what a lot had already suspected—which is that they’re now separated.

It was 8 years of “soap opera” as Ritchie would describe it, saying that it was, to a huge degree, too much drama. Ritchie’s friends said that the two grew a lot disagreements after they married. The problem was not that they both changed but they stayed who they are. Madonna devoted herself to work while Ritchie thought it would be better to save more time for their children.
