Kim Basinger | Town

In fairness to Kim Basinger, she actually had an investment planning strategy in mind when she bought the town of Braselton, Georgia back in 1989. She paid up to $20 million to get the entire thing because she fell in love with it and saw so much potential in it when she passed through and got caught up in traffic. She spent more than a year negotiating and having the papers processed so she could claim all of 1,600 acres of land to herself.

She wanted to turn the place into a tourist attraction complete with production studios that did different films. She also wanted to make it the prime location for hosting film festivals. She had such big dreams for it but things went downhill and didn’t go her way. Only 5 years later, she sold the town for only $1 million and declared bankruptcy.
