Among the many adult film stars over the years, Nina Hartley is considered a legend. Hartley grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she initially pursued nursing. She began her career as an adult film star in 1976 with her appearance in The Autobiography of a Flea. During her college years, she further became more involved in the industry. She graduated magna cum laude in nursing in 1985. However, she devoted her time and investment to the adult film industry. Her most well-known appearances were in several spin-offs of Debbie Does.

Today, aside from being active in the business even at age 63, she has also become an activist for her fellow colleagues in the industry. In addition, she has made several mainstream appearances, mainly in TV shows and documentaries, and has written several books related to her career in the adult industry.
